PNPI Explorer Blog – New York
Welcome back to the PNPI Explorer blog series, where we examine higher education data in different states. This week’s spotlight is on New York.
In 2021 in New York, there were 294 institutions serving 926,870 full-time equivalent (FTE) students. Using the Comparison Tool, we can examine the average net price of higher education at New York institutions. Similar to other Northeast states, New York institutions have a relatively high net price for families with annual incomes greater than $110K, at $32.3K. This is $5K more than the national average of $26.9K.
Despite the high net price for high-income families, New York institutions do much to offset these costs for families with low annual incomes, specifically those with incomes less than $30K. On average, New York institutions cost these families a net price of $9.2K, which is $1.5K lower than the national average of $10.7K.
