PNPI Explorer Blog – Louisiana
Welcome back to the PNPI Explorer blog series, where we examine higher education data in different states. This week’s spotlight is on Louisiana.
In 2021 in Louisiana, there were 56 institutions serving 187,497 full-time equivalent (FTE) students. Using the Explorer’s Enrollment & Access report, we can examine the share of undergraduate students who have received a federal Pell Grant by institutional type. Specifically, we can see that, across all institutions, 46.7% of undergraduates received a Pell Grant. At for-profit and public two-year institutions, this share was considerably higher (71.6% and 60%, respectively).
Using the Comparison Tool, we can check whether the share of undergraduates receiving Pell Grants at Louisiana institutions is higher or lower than other states. When looking across all institutional sectors, we see that Louisiana has the highest share of Pell Grant recipients in the country, with their 46.7% being more than 10 percentage points above the national estimate of 35.5%.
