PNPI Explorer Blog – Idaho
Welcome back to the PNPI Explorer blog series, where we examine higher education data in different states. This week’s spotlight is on Idaho.
In 2021 in Idaho, there were 15 institutions serving 85,465 full-time equivalent (FTE) students. Looking at the College Cost report, we can see that institutions in Idaho have a relatively low average cost of attendance for students, particularly among for-profit ($9.7K), non-profit ($15.5K), and public two-year institutions ($12.3K). This low cost of attendance is largely driven by low published tuition and fees, even among out-of-state students ($15.7K). In-state students only pay $7.2K on average to attend institutions in Idaho.
We can use the PNPI Explorer’s Comparison Tool to see how Idaho fares against other states with respect to average cost of attendance. Across all institutional types, Idaho’s average cost of attendance was $17.8K, making it the third lowest cost of attendance in the country. Only Wyoming ($17.4K) and New Mexico ($16.7K) had lower average costs of attendance. Idaho is more than $10K lower than the national average.
