PNPI Explorer Blog – Delaware
Welcome back to the PNPI Explorer blog series, where we examine higher education data in different states. This week’s spotlight is on Delaware.
In 2021 in Delaware, there were 7 institutions serving 42,596 full-time equivalent (FTE) students. Looking at the Explorer’s Completion & Attainment report, we see that there is considerable variation in completion rates by institutional sector. Among first-time, full-time undergraduates, 76.4% of students at public four-year institutions completed within 150% time (six-year graduation rate for four-year institutions, three-year rate for two-year institutions). In comparison, 34.2% of students at private non-profit institutions and 20.2% of students at public two-years completed within 150% time.
We can also examine how Delaware institutions compare to other states in terms of 150% time graduation rates by using the PNPI Explorer’s Comparison Tool. Among all institutional types, Delaware institutions graduate 59.2% of students within 150% time, compared to 54.2% nationally. This puts Delaware in the top quartile of states in terms of graduating their students within a reasonable amount of time. When looking at national completion rates of public four-year institutions, the difference is even more pronounced, with 76.4% of Delaware students comparing against 63.5% of students nationally.
