PNPI Explorer Blog – Oregon
Welcome back to the PNPI Explorer blog series, where we examine higher education data in different states. This week’s spotlight is on Oregon.
In 2021 in Oregon, there were 49 institutions serving 145,889 full-time equivalent (FTE) students. Using the Comparison Tool, we can examine the percentage of FTE enrollment at Oregon institutions which is composed of post-traditional aged students (aged 25 or older when entering higher education). Oregon institutions have a relatively high percentage of post-traditional aged students, with 31.2% of FTE students in this age cohort. That places Oregon more than six and a half percentage points higher than the national average of 24.6%.
Using the PNPI Explorer’s curated report on Enrollment and Access, we can see which institution types are driving these differences. Nearly 60% of FTE enrollment at for-profit institutions in Oregon is post-traditional aged students. This is significantly higher than the 25.7% at non-profit institutions, 35.9% at public 2-year institutions, and 30.1% at public 4-year institutions.
